Are you using Indeed Smart Sourcing properly?

Here are some top tips to get your new AI tool working the best it can

You’ve had a couple of months to play around with Smart Sourcing, Indeed’s new AI tool designed to make life much easier for recruiters and hiring managers by leveraging the power of AI. But have you got everything set up and working at full potential?

Here are a handful of quick tips you can action right away to get your Smart Sourcing tool working at the max.

First of all:

What is Indeed Smart Sourcing?

Smart Sourcing is a new AI tool from Indeed that identifies quality candidates from the CV database and matches them to your roles automatically.

Using a set of parameters that includes location, job title, experience, current role and much more, you’ll get suggested candidate linking up to your live jobs without having to performance a search yourself.

The Indeed website says: “Smart Sourcing streamlines the hiring process by matching quality candidates to your job, offering faster candidate connections in one cohesive experience”.

This makes the tool an efficient way of pre-sifting CVs, saving you time and effort.

How to get the most out of Smart Sourcing: 5 tips

1. Make sure your job description is accurate and detailed

The job description you attach to the open role is what the Smart Sourcing AI will analyse to generate the parameters it uses to match CVs. If this job description contains incorrect information, or not enough detail, the AI may not do the best job of putting forward the best candidates on the database – but you’ll still get some pretty good suggestions.

It’s all about giving the AI as much accurate, detailed information as possible.

2. Apply filters

To save you time when it does come to the first read-through and sift, apply filters to Smart Sourcing to remove or include specific details. For example, you can make some skills or qualifications mandatory, and the AI won’t serve you CVs that don’t display evidence of, say, a degree in astrophysics if you’re hiring an astrophysicist.

This also works for locations and salary brackets if they’re applied. However, if you find the number of CVs you’re seeing is low, you can quickly toggle filters to see candidates that may be a good fit, and simply haven’t include the thing the filter is including or excluding

3. Use the shortlist tool

Prevent yourself from having to run the search again or losing that great CV by using shortlists to manage the candidate the Smart Sourcing AI suggests. The AI will shortlist candidates it thinks is relevant automatically, then its up to you to move these CVs into your own shortlist system, or use the procedurally generated shortlist to work through relevant candidates

4. Create a great outreach message

A huge benefit of Indeed’s Smart Sourcing tool is the ability to send an outreach message to a potential candidate automatically. You can tailor this message to include details about your organisation, the role and any other important info – and the AI will even help you to write it.

This is a huge opportunity to start sharing your brand story and EVP, so make sure the outreach message matches your tone of voice and is honest, accurate, and of course has a gentle call to action or sales pitch!

5. Make sure you’re on the right subscription

If you’re a volume recruiter or have lots of open roles, make sure you’re getting value for money from your subscription to Smart Sourcing. If you switched automatically, you may be on the standard model, which ends up costing more in the long run if you add lots of Indeed CVs using Smart Sourcing or share candidates with your team.
